I'm having a problem with my console. ( I'm running 8.7 with no SPs, on XP, sp2, w/1gb RAM. Box is a Gateway. )
For the second time this morning, my console.exe process has climbed to 45-50% cpu...and STAYED THERE. This time I was trying to connect to a computer that LD seems to have a problem with, to double check the error msg ( for a separate forum msg ). Pieces of the remote control window displayed, then the cpu usage went up, and it's still up. It's been at least 5 minutes by now.
Earlier this morning I was trying to switch my column sets. Same thing, without the video problem, as best I can recall.
Today is not the first time that I've had this problem. It has happened several times over the last month or so.
The only way I know of to stop it, is to use Task manager to kill it. When I restart the console, it's fine. Until it isn't. There doesn't seem to be a set amount of time that's passed, or anything else that I can ascertain. It just acts up, when it wants to act up.
I know that SP5 is now available, and I already downloaded SP4 last week. I've mentioned this to the boss, as he's the one who would apply a SP. But he's been busy and hasn't had time to apply any just yet.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Tom
Tom,
I would suggest applying SP4 (or SP5). There were a good many performance related bug fixes in the first couple of service packs.

Thanks. I'll see if I can't "prod" the boss a bit, to see if we can't get this done soon.

Perhaps an interesting wrinkle... When I killed this last instance of the runaway console.exe process, something new happened. This time, another process took its place. ( Outlook.exe ) All previous occurences with console stopped when I killed the process, and nothing took its place like this time.
After I closed everything so I could reboot ( I was afraid to kill outlook ), I got a warning message about "CiceroUIWndFrame". This is one I've never seen before.
Always something... ![]()
If you do a Google search of "CiceroUIWndFrame," there are all kinds of messages from people getting the same message as you. I might try running Console.exe without loading Outlook and see if the CPU utilization problem persists.

Tom, what you're seeing is undoubtably a performance defect and one that has been fixed is subsequent service packs. You'll have to apply the service pack resolve the issue.
One thing you can do to minimize the console overhead though is to remove your Column Set if you're using one and if that helps your performance try putting back one column at a time. Most times when we see perfomance issues in the Console it is because it has to load a ton of information into memory.
The latest service pack for LANDesk products is available here:

I finally got to apply SP6. It hasn't helped. Intermittently, console.exe, explorer.exe, outlook.exe, iexplorer.exe and I'm guessing others, will grab 50% of my CPU...and KEEP it. So I guess my problem wasn't/isn't with LanDesk...
Tom
AV clients can do that sometimes -- which client are you using?
I was using SAV 10.1. Now that we have Endpoint ( v11.0 ), I've upgraded to it. This was just a day or two ago.
